KweKwe (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe will for the first time participate in the continental phase of the Under 20 International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy which will be held from January 16-20 in Brazzaville, Congo.

Zimbabwe qualified for the tournament after winning gold in the Zone Six Africa Challenge held in Zimbabwe in October last year.

Zimbabwe Handball Federation technical director, Farai Gwisai said the Zimbabwe national team went into camp on December 6 and is expected to be in Brazzaville on January 15.

Some of the countries expected at the continental tournament are Burundi, Guinea, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the hosts, Congo.

“Zimbabwe will go as underdogs, since the competition will be graced by top African teams,” said Gwisai.

Zimbabwe though, under coaches Cephas Mushati and Tafadzwa Mudure, boast of a solid defence well marshalled by goalkeeper Kudakwashe Soka.
