Harare,  (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe and Russia have launched a landmark cyber security training programme aimed at equipping over 10,000 Zimbabwean youths with critical digital security skills.

The Cyberus National Cyber security Training Programme was unveiled at a high-level event in Harare, marking the beginning of an ambitious initiative to bolster Zimbabwe’s cybersecurity capabilities and create employment opportunities for young people.

The programme, a result of a trilateral partnership between the Government of Zimbabwe, Russia’s Cyberus Foundation, and local tech firm RedZone Digital Zimbabwe, is part of a broader national strategy to address the country’s digital security challenges and transform it into a regional hub for cybersecurity education.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera described the initiative as a “national investment in our digital resilience, youth employment, and economic growth.

” She emphasized that the programme would train thousands of youths in ethical hacking, real-world cyberattack simulations, and cybersecurity fundamentals, using a world-class learning management system developed by CyberED. “This is not just a training programme,” said Mavetera.

“We are building a digitally sovereign Zimbabwe that protects its infrastructure and empowers its youth.” The Programme includes a regional component, with Cyberus committing to offer 160 additional scholarships, ten from each SADC member state, further cementing Zimbabwe’s role as a regional leader in cybersecurity capacity building.

Top-performing graduates will receive job offers to work on national infrastructure projects and will be added to Zimbabwe’s national cybersecurity talent pool. The training initiative is supported by major Russian institutions, including Positive Technologies, KOMIB, and Innostage.

It builds on a 2023 Bilateral Agreement on Information Security between Zimbabwe and the Russian Federation Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Federation embassy, Sergey Kuzin linked the partnership to recent high-level meetings between President Vladimir Putin and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
