Harare (New Ziana) -Zimbabwe was on Wednesday elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for one year, following elections held in New York, the United States.

The development marks a significant diplomatic milestone and a major boost to the international engagement efforts which the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa embarked on soon after coming into office in 2017.

Reports from New York say Zimbabwe easily secured the non-permanent seat following a diplomatic push which saw government officials moving around world capitals to lobby for support.

In its diplomatic campaign, Zimbabwe was pitching the message that it is a friend to all and an enemy to none, as well as that it is open for business.
