HARARE – Zimbabwean match officials have secured a series of high-profile Confederation of African Football (CAF) appointments for upcoming continental club and international fixtures.
The appointments, announced by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Monday, will see Zimbabwean referees officiate CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup, and TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifiers.
A refereeing quartet led by Lawrence Zimondi will take charge of the CAF Confederation Cup encounter between Djibouti’s ASAS Djibouti Télécom and Egypt’s ZED FC at Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo on September 12.
Zimondi will be assisted by Tafadzwa Nkala and Polite Mthunzi Dube, while Thabani Ruzario will serve as the fourth official. On the same day, another Zimbabwean officiating team will handle the CAF Champions League match between Lijabatho FC of Lesotho and C.F.F.A of Madagascar at Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Owen Manenda has been appointed referee for the encounter, with Luckson Mhara and Edgar Rumeck as assistant referees. Brighton Chimene will be the fourth official. Chimene will later take charge of the TotalEnergies AFCON 2027 qualifier between Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on September 25.
He will be assisted by Mhara and Rumeck, while Manenda will serve as the fourth official.
Zimbabwe will also have representation in match administration, with Norman Matemera appointed Match Commissioner for two CAF assignments in Zambia.
Matemera will oversee the CAF Champions League fixture between Power Dynamos and Al Merrikh in Ndola on September 12.
He will also serve as Match Commissioner for the TotalEnergies AFCON 2027 qualifier between Zambia and Togo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on September 29.
The appointments highlight the growing involvement of Zimbabwean officials in CAF-organised competitions and provide them with an opportunity to officiate at major continental matches.
