ZIMCHE licenses UNICAF to operate in Zimbabwe

Harare (New Ziana)-The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) has granted provisional accreditation to UNICAF University to set up operations in the country, an official said on Tuesday.

Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Cuthbert Katsvanga told a press conference that the university was now waiting for its programmes to be accredited after which it would commence operations.

“After seeking permission from the ZIMCHE we have been awarded a provisional accreditation to set up operations in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Unicaf is an online platform in sub-Saharan Africa that seeks to make higher education of international standard accessible to African professionals and young school leavers.

Its name reflects its origins, having initially evolved from the University of Nicosia, the largest, independent tertiary education institution in Cyprus.

Prof Katsvanga said recruitment of students had not yet started as the university was awaiting accreditation of its programmes.

“The programmes that we have on offer at the moment are eight Bachelors degrees, seventeen Masters degrees and three Doctorates which we have sent to ZIMCHE for accreditation,” he said.

He said Unicaf has a system called (Credit Accumulation and Transfer) through which students can move from one institution to another.
