Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe recorded one Covid-19 death and 78 new cases on Saturday bringing the total of confirmed cases as at August 22 to 5 893, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.

Total deaths now stand at 153.

The country has in the past two weeks reported a high rate of recoveries, which now stand at 4 629 since the first case was recorded in March this year.

This means of the total of nearly 6 000 cases recorded in the past six months, only 1 111 cases remain active, the health ministry said.

“As of 22 August, Zimbabwe has now recorded 5 893 cases, 4 629 recoveries and 153 deaths,” the ministry of health said.

The country is under an indefinite Level 2 lockdown and 10 hour curfew aimed at minimising people’s movement to contain the spread of the pandemic.
