Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) has commenced a nationwide household listing exercise as part of preparations for the 2025 Zimbabwe Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), to run from Wednesday to August 8 this year.
The critical pre-survey phase will see ZIMSTAT Enumerators visiting households in selected enumeration areas across the country, with enumerators carrying official identification letters to authenticate their credentials and ensure public trust.
“The listing is a crucial preparatory step ahead of the main data collection phase, which is scheduled for September/October 2025. It allows us to build an accurate sampling frame and ensure quality data collection when the actual survey begins,” ZIMSTAT said in a statement on Monday.
The MICS program, implemented under the authority of the Census and Statistics Act, is a globally recognized household survey initiative spearheaded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to provide internationally comparable data on key indicators affecting children and women.
The information collected assists in guiding policy formulation, planning, and monitoring of national development goals. ZIMSTAT emphasized that all information gathered is strictly confidential and will be used solely for statistical purposes, with the agency appealing to households in the selected areas to cooperate fully with enumerators during the important exercise.
“This is a vital national survey, and the support of communities will help Zimbabwe make evidence-based decisions that improve lives,” ZIMSTAT added. The 2025 MICS will contribute significantly to tracking progress toward Zimbabwe’s development priorities, including the national vision to attain upper middle income status by 2030 and global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
