Harare, (New Ziana) —The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZNBWCB) has appointed financial expert Priscila Kadungure as its new General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer in a strategic move aimed at revitalising and professionalising combat sports in the country.

The appointment took effect on July 1 this year.

Announcing the development, ZNBWCB chairperson Vee Chibanda hailed it as a milestone that signals a renewed era for boxing and wrestling in Zimbabwe.

“Mrs Kadungure brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the development of combat sport in Zimbabwe. Her vision and leadership will be invaluable as we strive to elevate combat sport to new heights,” she said.

With years of administrative experience and a solid reputation in the sporting fraternity, Kadungure is expected to spearhead transformative strategies that will strengthen the governance, visibility, and competitiveness of combat sports, both locally and on the global stage.

The appointment comes at a time when the ZNBWCB is intensifying efforts to enhance professional standards, improve athlete welfare, and position Zimbabwean fighters for continental and international success.

“We are confident that her dedication and expertise will drive our organization forward and enhance our athletes’ competitive experiences on both local and international stages,” Chibanda added.

As the new CEO, Kadungure will oversee regulatory, developmental, and promotional responsibilities, including stakeholder coordination and the implementation of performance-enhancing programmes for athletes.

The Board called on all players in the combat sports ecosystem, from athletes and coaches to sponsors and fans, to rally behind the new leadership.

“We urge all stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, and supporters, to extend their full support to Mrs Kadungure as she embarks on this important journey. Together, we can work towards achieving our shared goals and fostering an environment where our athletes can thrive,” said Chibanda.

As Kadungure settles into her new role, all eyes will be on how her leadership shapes the trajectory of combat sport in the country in the years to come.
