ZRP Gwanda FC are dreaming of a better and fruitful season, after the team blended old and new horses to ensure that they strengthen their team in Central Region One.
ZRP is working round the clock to counter speculations, amid calls that it is now a pale shadow of its former team, without a formidable force after the mass exodus of key players.
However, ZRP’s strategy appears to be yielding positive results after they edged West Nicholson FC 3-0 in a friendly match at Phelandaba Stadium last week.
The game that showed unity, sportsmanship and team resilience, was the first game of ZRP FC in the pre-season.
In an interview, the club’s head coach, Morris Chiwara, was optimistic that his team would produce good results.
“We are still building our team. We have lost a number of big players and we saw it fit that we should blend the team with young and energetic players. We are still fixing our puzzle and we hope it will work for us.
“The game against West Nicholson was good, it showed us that, there is room for improvement in our team. The combination of our players is also on a positive note. We have huge ambitions for this coming season, we want to keep our fans on feet in each and every game,” said Chiwara.
West Nicholson FC is also leaving no stone unturned in building its team into a formidable force as they prepare for the ZIFA Central Region One.
West Nicholson FC coach, Ophani Muleya (Zero), said his team was also pulling out all strings to ensure that they bring good results to their fans.
“The game was good, we have identified our flaws and we are going to work on them. Time is not on our side, but we want to assure fans that our vision for this season is big. This season, we are aiming for the top four,” said Muleya.
ZRP Gwanda FC and West Nicholson FC will also lock horns in the Central Region Division One. They are not new to the terrain. The Castle Premier League is back, bringing the much-awaited joy to the soccer fans. For Matabeleland South, the countdown still continues as they eagerly await Division One and Two dates.
