Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has ramped up efforts to bolster its fight against serious crimes through intensifying training and technological support for its elite Criminal Investigation Department Crack Teams.
Speaking at the official closing ceremony of the CID Crack Teams Intermediate Investigations Course at the Shamva Battle Camp on Wednesday, Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba emphasized the renewed focus of the police force on specialized training and modernization.
At least 63 detectives completed the 45-day course designed to enhance their capacity in handling high-profile criminal investigations.
The course, which focused on crime scene response, suspect tracking, and investigations into offenses such as cybercrime, armed robbery, and murder, marks a significant step in the ZRP’s strategic policing upgrade.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to professionalize and equip our officers, we are ensuring that our specialized units are fully prepared to tackle the country’s most dangerous criminals,” Com Gen Mutamba said.
“This includes the adoption of new technologies to enhance investigative efficiency and accuracy.”
To underscore then commitment, Com Gen Mutmba handed over state-of-the-art tablets to each of the graduating detectives for use when gathering digital evidence, processing crime scenes, and conducting thorough investigations.
He reiterated that his leadership is prioritizing the capacitation of officers across all ranks including rolling out a series of training workshops countrywide, aimed at improving the operational performance and conduct of both junior and senior officers.
Com Gen Mutamba also took the opportunity to remind officers of their constitutional obligations and the importance of adhering to strict guidelines in the use of firearms.
Since assuming office in January this year, Com Gen Mutamba has spearheaded numerous reforms focused on discipline, technology adoption, and skills development within the ZRP.
The enhanced training and provision of investigative tools are part of the ZRP’s broader effort to improve public safety and restore confidence in law enforcement, amid a rise in violent and organized crimes.
