Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) is inviting tenders for the supply of 350 buses and 200 mini buses as it puts in motion a comprehensive plan to boost the country’s mass public transport system.

In a public notice, ZUPCO invited reputable domestic and international companies to tender for the supply and delivery of 200 x 64 seater intercity buses, 100 x 64 seater rural buses, 50 x 64 seater electric buses and 200 mini buses.

All the four tenders close on January 26, with interested companies expected to submit their bids by 10am on the day together with their certificates of incorporation, valid tax clearance certificates, company profiles detailing the nature of business, valid PRAZ (Procurement Authority of Zimbabwe) registration in the relevant field, CR14 and CR06 forms and three written trade reference letters relevant to the trade and valid NSSA (National Social Security Authority) certificates.

Tender documents are obtainable from the ZUPCO finance department at its offices in Harare upon payment of a non-refundable fee of ZWL$20 000 or the equivalent in USD at the prevailing Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) rate on the day of payment.

Completed tenders are to be deposited in a tender box at the same offices.

Presenting the 2024 national budget, Finance, Economic Development and Planning Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube indicated that an allocation had been made to bankroll the acquisition of buses for ZUPCO. This is expected to boost ZUPCO’s fleet of 467 buses.

The company is also refurbishing some of its old coaches.

The buses are expected to ease transport challenges being experienced in the country’s urban areas after the authorities cracked down on pirate taxis.

Government is working on a multi-model urban transport system to include rail, mass rapid bus system and creation of an enabling infrastructure.
