SHURUGWI -Four schools in the Midlands province have started benefiting from the 100 Kilowatt solar power systems installed by the Southern Africa Development Community focused organisation, Future LifeNow!

Future LifeNow! coordinator, Edgar Mubvuma said schools that benefited included Dorset Secondary School in Shurugwi, Nashville High School and Makhulambila Secondary School in Gweru district, and Manunure High School in Kwekwe district.

Mubvuma said the four schools were among ten which benefited from the 800 000 Rand worth of solar systems targeted nationwide.

He said the installation of solar energy at each schools cost 80 000 South African Rand.

“The schools are benefiting from the pilot project arrangement between Future Life Now and South African based Non-Governmental Organisation MIET Africa,” he said.

Dorset Secondary School Development Committee treasurer Noel Mposi said the state-of-the-art equipment would enhance development in the area.

“The schools are lagging behind in terms of development, but the coming of the solar energy will promote the use of ICTs in our rural schools and bridge the gap between the rural and urban schools,” he said.

School deputy head Wilson Mukandatsama echoed the same sentiments, praising Future LifeNow! for the gesture.

“The coming in of the solar system is going to boost our ICT centre and ensure our students move with the modern trends,” he said.
