11k Zim frontline workers receive Covid-19 vaccination

Harare(New Ziana) – A total of 11 007 frontline workers have been vaccinated against Covid-19 since the programme kicked off early this week, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

Zimbabwe rolled out the programme last week after receiving 200 000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, with Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga being the first in the country to take the jab.

Government has given top priority to frontline workers in various sectors to be inoculated, with other categories set to get the jabs when the country takes delivery of more doses.

In a daily update, the Ministry of Health said of the cumulative number of vaccinated frontline workers, 3 135 had been inoculated on Thursday.

“3135 frontline workers vaccinated today bringing cumulative vaccinated to 11 007,” said the Ministry.

The government is eager to arrest Covid-19 infections and deaths.

Zimbabwe has to date recorded 1 458 deaths and 35 994 infections since the first coronavirus infection case was recorded in March 2020.

Zimbabwe plans to inoculate 60 percent of its population by year end.

The Covid-19 inoculations are voluntary.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and members of the Cabinet will get vaccinated when the second batch of vaccines are delivered in the country in the next two weeks.

The rest of the population will be inoculated when the country receives more Covid-19 vaccines from China, Britain, India and Russia.
