Harare (New Ziana)-At least 27 people succumbed to Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total deaths for the past seven days to 139, statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care show.
In a daily update, the Ministry said 2 107 new Covid-19 cases were also recorded countrywide bringing the cumulative national tally to 207 655 since the onset of the global pandemic.
“As of 28 December 2021 at 1500hrs there were 416 hospitalised cases; new admissions (72), asymptomatic 64, mild to moderate 304, severe 45 and 3 in intensive care units,” said the Ministry.
With regards to the Covid-19 vaccination drive, the Health and Child Care Ministry said Zimbabwe had so far inoculated 4 112 241 with the first dose, and 3 121 783 with the second dose.
At least 4 596 people have also received the third Covid-19 booster jab.
Zimbabwe stepped up its already successful Covid-19 vaccination campaign this month through introduction of booster shots after the Omicron variant, thought to spread faster but less deadly, was discovered in South Africa at the end of November.
