Harare Ziana)-Confirmed cholera cases are on the rise in Zimbabwe with 17 cases recorded so far, up from 8 reported last Thursday, the Health Ministry has said.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care daily updates, six new suspected cholera cases and four laboratory confirmed cases were reported on Sunday.
These were reported from Mbire (3), and Chimanimani (1).
The Ministry said as of 18 March 2023, at least 12 people were hospitalized because of cholera.
These are admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital cholera treatment centre (2) in Mat South province, Bikita District Hospital CTC in Masvingo province (1), Thorngrove Hospital, Bulawayo (1), Chinengundu Clinic in Chegutu district, Mashonaland West province (2), Chimanimani District Hospital, Manicaland province (5), and Chidodo clinic CTC, Mbire district in Mashonaland Central province (1).
“As of today (Sunday), Zimbabwe has recorded 159 suspected cholera cases, 17 confirmed cases, 128 recoveries and 1 death.
According to the Ministry, Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi and Harare are cholera hotspot districts in the country.
Others include Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe, Shamva, Mutare, Murehwa, Mwenezi, Seke and Wedza.
The first cholera outbreak in the country this year started on the 12th of February in Chegutu town, Mashonaland West province.
Since then, cases have been reported in six other provinces of the country with all of them not having any epidemiological link to each other.
