LOWER GWERU — Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested five suspects who allegedly stole 35 cattle
from Gilman Farm in Lower Gweru recently.
Police managed to recover 33 cattle and the five suspects appeared in court facing stock theft
charges.
The suspects are, Busisani SIBANDA (39) of Drawcard Farm, Vungu Lower Gweru, Emmanuel Moyo
(40) of Mantiya Village, Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru, Ephraim Mazinyane (40) of Mantiya Village,
Takurai Gumbo (53) and Chikomborero Calvin Gumbo (25) both of Ensors Farm, Vungu Lower
Gweru.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the cattle were stolen on two
different occasions between September 1 and November 5 last year.
It is alleged the five accused persons cut the barbed wire to drive the cattle out. The offense was
discovered by one of the workers and a report was made to the police.
Following a tip off police recovered three beasts from Busisani Sibanda which he had allegedly
rebranded.
Further investigations led to the arrest of one of the farm workers Takurai Gumbo and his son
Chikomborero Calvin Gumbo and the recovery of eight cattle.
The remaining 25 cattle were recovered from local farmers who had bought them from the suspects.
It was established that one of the suspects Emmanuel Moyo was on the run for an attempted
murder he committed at Fort Rixon.
“Once again the police would like to applaud members of the public for supplying helpful
information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
“Farmers are urged to quickly make police reports where they suspect their stock to have been
stolen. In addition, farmers have to be watchful of the activities of their farm workers,” said Insp.
Mahoko.
