MARONDERA- The notorious Hwedza man who made headlines after allegedly killing three
people including a self styled Apostolic sect prophet in cold blood was later arrested whilst
attempting to skip the country into neighbouring Mozambique last week.
Police in Mashonaland East confirmed the arrest of Jaison Muvhevhi, a former Criminal
Investigations Department (CID) officer based in Kadoma. He had gone on the run since the
commission of the crime in Hwedza. His story was the lead topic in most social media
platforms, a move which may have forced him to skip the country.
His pictures dominated newspapers and social platforms such that he could not go unnoticed.
As the investigations and hunt for him intensified, police located him in Chiduku area near
Rusape, where a fierce shoot out ensued.
During the intense exchange of gunfire, Muvhevhi felt the heat and abandoned his Toyota
Allion vehicle before fleeing into a nearby mountain, leaving a gun in the vehicle.
After the shootout in Chiduku, an FN rifle that the he had taken from the police officer he had
killed in Wedza was recovered.
Muvhevhi was now armed with a service pistol which he also took from the police officer he
injured while resisting arrest, in addition to his personal pistol.
Muvhevhi was identified by members of the public when he was about to board a commuter
omnibus in Manica, Mozambique and was arrested by police in the neighboring country. Prior
to his arrest, the murder suspect had passed by Mutare Boys High where he also allegedly fired
three shots in an attempt to kill a resident at the school who had disturbed his conversation
with female a employee at the same school.
The suspect had just approached the woman who had finished taking a bath asking for food
before giving her $US10 to buy a chicken so that she would prepare him some food.
Raphel Nyahwema (23), a Mutare Boys High School caretaker’s son, who interrupted their
conversation after demanding to know why the suspect was present at the school is lucky to be
alive after Muvhevhi shot three times at him, but.
He then fled the scene and emerged in Mozambique where he was captured.

The Hwedza victims of Muvhevhi shootings were identified by the police as Crispen Mubvana
Kqanerusine (62) of Zinzombe Village in Hwedza, Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) of ZRP Hwedza
Camp and Munashe Mujanhi (20)of Mujanhi Village also in Hwedza. The injured officer was
identified as Detective Constable Tendai Mugova.
Muvhevhi has since appeared in court and police have asked for more time to investigate.
