GOROMONZI- Three thousand Goromonzi families recently benefited from 30 000 free
range chickens with each homestead getting 10 chickens under the Presidential Poultry
Scheme.
Those who benefited were from Ward 7 which included villages such as Nyakudya,
Chaitezvi, Madhongo, Nyamadzawo, Nyamayaro and Musonza.
The programme come at the backdrop of a similar one held in Mudzi last year when several
other villagers also benefited from the scheme.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Dr Aplonia
Munzverengwi who presided over the event applauded the gesture by the president and
said it will go a long way in empowering and improving lifestyles of the rural communities.
The minister also indicated that there are many similar programmes being rolled out in the
country, with a goat programme having been launched in Chipinge and spreading to all
provinces including Mashonaland East where 98 000 goats were up for grabs.
In an interview with this publication, one the beneficiaries, Dominic Gezani from Shangwa
Village mentioned that he was pleased by the work of the President as the chickens will help
mitigate hunger at household level as they will be selling eggs and chickens to generate
income.
Owen Gore of Nyakudya village was also short of words to thank the President over the gift,
saying he was very grateful and hoped to see many such life-changing schemes rolled out in
the area.
