Kwekwe (New Ziana)– President Emmerson has urged churches, community leaders and police to compliment government efforts in putting to an end bullying in schools and drug abuse which is threatening the future of the young generation.
Addressing thousands of farmers, diplomatic corps and other stakeholders at the national field day held at his Precabe Farm in Kwekwe on Saturday, President Mnangagwa said he was disturbed by the level of bullying and drug abuse among teenagers.
“Kune chirwere chapinda munyika medu. I would want all of us in our individual capacities, collective capacities as leaders in our respective communities like chiefs, headmen and village heads and businesspeople – the drug abuse in this country.
“We must fight drug abuse at family/household level, community level, district level upwards, we must fight it. It’s not an issue which you say government must fight, all of us, let us fight drug abuse which is destroying our younger generation, our boys and girls are getting destroyed by it,” he said.
President said drug peddlers and those who import and sell the drugs must be exposed and be arrested.
As a strategy to fight drug and substance abuse, President Mnangagwa said he has given instructions to the police to arrest those up on drugs, who when sober will be forced to reveal the names of the drug peddlers.
President Mnangagwa expressed concern over bullying in both day and boarding schools, which has led to the death of innocent school children.
“I am told in some instances, kids kill each other, they fight and so on, that should stop. The parents should tell their children not to participate in bullying.
He said the government is looking at how to deal with the issue of bullying in schools and will deal with schools that fail to stamp out the problem.
“We need peace from the grassroots up to the apex of this country. We can’t preach everywhere, and we have kids killing each other.
President Mnangagwa urged all churches to assist the government in preaching peace and love and condemn bullying and drug abuse now prevalent in the country.
