THREE cases of anthrax were reported in Bikita West last week, at a time when
the district is reporting a resurgence of the January disease.
The anthrax cases were reported at Murwira Dip Tank in Bikita West’s Ward 22,
where three family members were admitted at Murwira Clinic after allegedly
consuming meat from one of the cattle that apparently died of anthrax.
The Veterinary Services Department officials said reports of the outbreak of the
disease had been forwarded to their superiors and they were waiting for the
delivery of vaccines to help fight the disease.
Farmers in Ward 22 were encouraged to report all cattle deaths to the Veterinary
and Agritex extension workers.
In a related story, the district was witnessing a resurgence of January disease cases.
A total of 25 cases covering seven dip tanks were reported last week.
Some of the affected dip tanks include Makuvaza in Ward 5 and Charuma in Ward
26, which reported the highest number of cases of the deadly tick bone disease. –
