Chinhoyi (New Ziana) – Voting in and around Chinhoyi in the ZANU PF primary elections was delayed for hours on Saturday after ballot papers were dispatched to polling centres late.
The elections were part of internal polls the ruling party was conducting countrywide to select candidates to represent it in national parliamentary and local government elections later in the year.
But voting in constituencies in Chinhoyi was marred by the late dispatch of ballot papers to polling centres in and around the city, which delayed the exercise.
Countrywide voting was scheduled for 7AM to 4PM, but polling in Chinhoyi only started around mid-day, much to the dismay of voters who went to voting centres early in the morning.
Inspite of the initial hiccup, voting went on smoothly after polling opened, with a steady stream of voters coming through to cast their ballots.
Voters are choosing candidates to represent the party in the national elections for the senate, house of assembly and local councils.
