Buhera (New Ziana) – Six Zanu PF members died, and 18 others were injured when the truck they were travelling in in Buhera was involved in a head-on collision on Saturday night, police have said.

The victims are thought to have been returning home after taking part in party primary elections held on Saturday.

National police spokesman, Paul Nyathi said the accident happened around 10pm near Mugombe Primary School along Murambinda Betere Road.

Over 40 people were traveling in the truck, which collided with another truck which had one person in it.

“Six people died whilst 18 others were injured when an Isuzu lorry with 40 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a Nissan Diesel truck which had one person on board,” he said.

No cause of the accident was given, but often police attribute these to speeding and reckless drunken driving.

The ruling Zanu PF party was on Saturday conducting Primary elections throughout the country to choose candidates who will represent it in general elections later this year.
