KARIBA – A man from Mahombekombe, Kariba, died after being attacked by a
crocodile, near Andora Harbour.
The incident happened on 7 March, at 10pm in Kariba.
Niel Ezai Chisara (21) of R11 Room 4 Ndola blocks Mahombekombe, Kariba, was on
duty at Andora Harbour, where he was employed as a security guard.
Chisara swam across to Nesango Leisure Bar to purchase beer. He bought an Eagle
Larger and dived back to his point of duty.
But a crocodile suddenly attacked him while he was swimming back. A security guard at
the Nesango Leisure Bar saw the incident and alerted the fishermen who were nearby.
They mobilised themselves and tried to rescue Chisara with their speed boat but to no
avail.
A police report was made at the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Kariba. The Sub-
Aqua Unit and National Parks officials attended the scene and a search was conducted
but the body was not found.
On 9 March 2023 the body was seen floating near the lake shore in the vicinity of
Anchorage Marine. The right arm had been severed and the body had multiple scars. It
was taken to Kariba Hospital Mortuary for a post mortem.
Mashonaland West Police spokesperson, Inspector Margret Chitove, appealed to the
public to avoid, at any cost, playing near water bodies infested with crocodiles as
chances of being attacked were very high.
