Bulawayo (New Ziana) – The just ended ZANU PF primary elections held over the weekend across the country have proven that doors are always open in the revolutionary party for cadres who want to put themselves for positions, a top provincial leader here has said.

Zanu PF Bulawayo Metropolitan province chairperson, Archibold Chiponda said the internal party polls went well, and participation by members in the vote was impressive.

“We were actually overwhelmed by the number of applications (to contest in the elections) this time, and it speaks (to) how the doors are open in Zanu PF right now in terms of access to cadres who want to put themselves for positions,” he said.

“It’s not easy to put yourself forward for a position because you will be putting yourself up for scrutiny from other party members,” Chiponda said.

He congratulated the winners, adding that the internal polls were critical as they strengthened the party ahead of general elections scheduled for mid-year.

“As a party, we would like to congratulate the winners (and) all those who put themselves forward. We move forward by doing such exercises as they make our party stronger. This helps us to move forward as one,” he added.

Chiponda said winners will be announced by the party headquarters in Harare after verification.

He said the party was particularly impressed by the participation of young candidates in the elections, noting this boded well for the party’s future.
