Mberengwa (New Ziana) –A 20-year-old man from Mberengwa district, the Midlands province is on the run after fatally striking his 22-year-old brother-in-law with an axe for allegedly wreaking his marriage.
Police confirmed the incident which occurred on 19 March this year at around 2 AM at Sakile village under chief Mataruse.
Tavonga Chitoro, who had divorced his wife, went and allegedly struck with an axe all over the body Prince Makowa who was sleeping in his house.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the reason for the attack was for allegedly causing the separation between Chitoro and his wife.
Villagers reported the matter to the police at around 7 AM the same day but Chitoro could not be located.
Makowa, who sustained deep cuts on both legs and right hand, was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital which referred him to the Gweru Provincial Hospital where he later on died.
Insp Mahoko appealed to the public to desist from violence to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
