Gweru (New Ziana) -THE Zimbabwe Under 17 junior and Under 19 youth women’s handball teams have intensified preparations for the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Zone 6 tournament to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from May 23 to 29 this year.
The Zone 6 tournament will be a qualifying competition for the continental championship and winners will represent the continent in the World junior and youth championships.
ZHF technical director Farai Gwisai said both the junior and youth teams broke up camp last Saturday to take part in the Open Season tournament to be held in Masvingo on May 14.
“Our teams were in camp since Wednesday last week and they came out of camp on Saturday, so ideally, it is the second preparation camp for the teams so that they get into shape.
“We are just worried about their fitness but we have tried to put a fitness programme for them so that they push up because remember some of them were not engaging in sport mainly due to Covid-19 shocks,” he said.
Gwisai said they are expecting the ladies teams to troop back into camp on May 15 after playing for their respective teams in the Open Season tournament at Masvingo Polytechnic.
The tournament will pave way for the start of regional leagues.
