Harare (New Ziana) – Self-exiled former cabinet minister, Savior Kasukuwere on Wednesday filed his nomination papers to contest in the upcoming general elections as an independent presidential candidate.

The country goes to the polls on August 23, and nomination courts sat countrywide on Wednesday to register candidates for the presidential, parliamentary and local government segments of the election.
Kasukuwere’s chief elections officer, Jacqueline Sande, successfully filed nomination papers on the ex-minister’s behalf at the High Court in Harare.

Sande told the media that Kasukuwere, believed to be in exile in South Africa, would be coming home to launch his election campaign soon.

It is not clear whether Kasukuwere also filed papers for candidates to stand on his ticket in parliamentary and council segments of the elections.

Kasukuwere fled the country in 2017 after being arrested for alleged abuse of office during his tenure as Local Government Minister.
