    Mozambican rebel group disarms

    Harare (New Ziana) – The recent disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO) combatants has been hailed as a major achievement of African diplomacy, showing continental challenges can be solved from within.

    In last week’s Cabinet press briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa said President Emmerson Mnangagwa had informed cabinet that Renamo combatants would now be integrated into public institutions and society after making peace with the government which he and other southern African leaders witnessed in Maputo last month.

    President Mnangagwa visited Maputo last month to attend ceremonies marking the disarmament, demobilisation and re-integration of RENAMO ex-combatants process.

    Other leaders attending included President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana, Rwandan Defence Minister Brigadier General Juvenal Marizamunda representing President Paul Kagame, Renamo leader, Ossufo Momade and the United Nations Secretary General’s Personal Envoy to Mozambique, Mirko Manzoni.

    Mutsvangwa said President Mnangagwa had noted that the event which marks a remarkable achievement of African diplomacy.
