CHEGUTU – THIS year’s edition of the province’s Culture Month Celebrations ended
on a high note at Chief Ngezi's homestead recently.
The event was graced by chiefs from all the seven districts of Mashonaland West
Province, as well as officials from provincial and district Government departments.
Speaker after speaker encouraged citizens to uphold their cultural values as it gives
them an identity as a nation. Headman Murombedzi took it upon himself to alert the
citizens on the effects of drug and substance abuse and encouraged them to refrain
from drug and substance abuse.
Various exhibitors took advantage of the event to showcase their diverse traditional
foods, art and culture.
Government departments such as the Environmental Management Agency, the
Zimbabwe National Parks Authority, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and
many others exhibited their wares.
EMA district head, Munyaradzi P. Gandidzanwa, reminded citizens to be aware of
the fire season and take precautions to avoid starting fires. He encouraged that they
create fire guards to avoid loss of lives and property. The event was a success as it
was supported by different cultural artists, who provided entertainment.
The Permanent Secretary in the Office the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and
Devolution, Josphat Jaji, on behalf of the Minister of State, Mary Mliswa Chikoka,
said that cultural events help in bringing peace and unity in the nation.
She went on to thank the First Lady for prioritising issues to do with Zimbabwe’s
culture, including introducing the national dress for the country.
Chief Ngezi praised the First Lady's efforts in resuscitating traditional values in
youths.
