CHINHOYI – PLATINUM FM radio station is to host a drug and substance abuse
awareness campaign at Nemakonde High School on Saturday.
The campaign seeks to gather young people in the community, including school
children, and educate them on the dangers of using drugs and other substances.
The main target for this completion is the young people in the entertainment industry.
Anesu Lloyd Karirira, also known as Cashflow, who is one the organisers of the event,
explained how most young talented artists are losing their talents because of drugs and
substance abuse.
“A lot of young talented artists are losing value because they believe they perform
better, write songs better while they are high on drugs. Most talented artists have lost
their way and recognition in the music industry because they have lost their careers for
good,” said Cashflow.
He also explained why they chose Nemakonde High School.
“We decided to host the completion at a school setting because a lot of these young
talented artist rise from the school and that is also where most drugs are being
distributed and a lot of students are indulging in drug use and abuse,” he said.
Cashflow explained other recognised artists, who will be available for the show,
supporting local talent and at the same time encouraging young talent to drop the use of
drugs.
“There are also artists that we have invited to support our cause for this event. We have
invited artists like Leo Maggoz, Saint Flow and Bling 4 and many others that I have not
mentioned, who will be there gracing the event. Local artists are also invited and they
are free to perform on the condition that they speak and sing only about the dangers of
using drugs,” he added.
The show is meant to be educational for young people as they will learn more about the
dangers of drugs and substance abuse, and the types of drugs that they should watch
out for.
“This is a not-to-miss event, especially for young people as there will be a lot of fun from
the competitors, the invited guests and a lot of learning for the young people on the
dangers of drug use and abuse,
“With the radio’s audience, we are hoping to reach as many people as we can and
educate them about drugs and substance abuse. We hope to encourage someone to
stop drugs and substance abuse for a better future. These people need to know that
their lives are more important than drugs and they need not shorten their lives because
of drugs. Madrugs anodamburira hupenyu pakati before one even reaches his or her full
potential,” he added.
