Harare (New Ziana) -Vice President General (Retired) Constatino Chiwenga has described the late Roman Catholic Sister and Mashambanzou Care Trust co-founder Margaret McAllen as an individual who inculcated Christian values of love and peaceful existence that shaped many to become responsible citizens.

Sister McAllen died at St Anne’s Hospital on Thursday last week after a long illness. She was 81.

In a condolence message, VP Chiwenga said the late Catholic Sister faithfully served communities beyond the call of duty when she co-founded the Mashambanzou Care Trust in 1989.

“The Trust became an important cogwheel in the big fight against illnesses, such as cancer and HIV and AIDS. It catered for the terminally ill patients when the community was still sceptical and shunned those affected as outcasts,” he said.

“Sister Margaret and her co-founder of the Trust remained consistent in embracing such unfortunate victims by giving them free treatment, care and rehabilitation.”

VP Chiwenga said the death of Sister McAlen leaves the nation spiritually poorer and saddened.

“She remained steadfast in serving the Lord and gave many people hope and a reason to live. Her immense contribution to the spiritual well-being of communities shall always be cherished,” he said.

Sister McAllen was born on the 2nd of February 1942 in Galway, Ireland and moved to Zimbabwe in July 1983 where she volunteered to execute her missionary work.
