MHANGURA -THREE boreholes have been drilled so far and more are set to under the
Presidential Rural Development Programme, where the Government intends to drill 35
000 boreholes in the country’s 10 rural provinces.
Communications Officer for Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA), Manyame
Catchment, Cosmas Tigere, said the solar-powered boreholes will enable the local
communities to establish nutrition gardens on which they will grow horticulture products,
high –value crops, fisheries and access clean safe piped water, among other benefits.
Councilor Martha Paul from Ward 13 Mhangura thanked the President for enabling the
process of drilling boreholes in rural communities.
“The provision of boreholes was for those living in urban areas, we didn’t know that one
day we would have solar-powered boreholes with taps in the rural areas and also
    access clean water to drink.
“We are really appreciating what he has done for us. We love our President so much.
Women from rural areas were looked down upon, we are now able to do gardening and
there is water,” said Cllr Paul.
There are two boreholes which have been completed in her ward and the third one is
still in the process of completion.
Epiphania Muzorori, from Mtunzi Farm, said the whole village was excited when the
    boreholes were drilled.
“Councillor Martha Paul went to the President and told him about the water problems we
were experiencing in Mtunzi, and he heard our cries since he is a listening President.

“The only thing that is left is to put pumps and solar so that we are able to use water, a
third borehole is to be drilled and we have finished clearing the garden area. It is ready
    for use,” said Muzorori.
She dedicated all the work to Martha Paul for being the pillar of their support.
Prince Chinhoyi, from Mtunzi Farm, said his greatest appreciation goes to President
Mnangagwa who gave them a borehole in their village to enable them to have this
precious liquid which is one of the most important things in lives.
“Special mention goes to Martha Paul Mapfumo for her guidance and inspiration and
advice, throughout this programme,” said Chinhoyi.
