AS part of a strategy to beef up development of rural economy, the Government
recently launched a village business in which members of the community will benefit
from the initiative.
The Government, through its rural development 8.0 is set to uplift the lives of
villagers through Presidential assistance programmes.
Among these programmes are the Presidential Input Programme-
Pfumvudza/Intwasa, Presidential Input Programme for cotton, Presidential Rural
Development, Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme, the Presidential Communities
Fisheries Programme, and Presidential Blitz Tick Grease.
Addressing people at a rally in Zaka at Chinorumba Secondary School, the Minister
of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka,
said the initiative will accelerate Vision 2030 to all the 35 000 villages in the country,
with Zaka being the first beneficiaries.
“President Mnangagwa said to all the 35 000 villages that we have in the country,
Vision 2030 will be initiated in all of them with each village getting electricity and
boreholes will be drilled like what we have witnessed here today. After these
initiatives, a company will be established.
“The first village to benefit from this programme is Mbuyamaswa Village. They now
have a company, the village head will be the chairman of the company while the
villagers will become the shareholders of the company. This is the model of what all
villages in the country will be like. These villagers are now shareholders,” he said.
Mbuyamaswa villagers under Chief Nhema were given bank cards and were handed
over their company certificate by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa said: “In line with what we were planning, this
village is the first to benefit from that and they are now a company. Starting from this
month, they will be getting their salaries. You have seen that they now have bank
cards; they will be going to the bank to collect their money. That is what we want to
do in all the 35 000 villages in the country.”
Julius Mutubuki, a villager from Zaka, who was at the rally, said they are looking
forward to such an initiative bringing development to their areas.
“I wish that the promises of development that we have been given by the President
that each and every village will have a borehole will be fulfilled and today I have seen
that the President walks the talk. He does not just promise what he does not do. We
have heard that others have benefitted from the boreholes scheme and fish ponds.”
