Harare (New Ziana) – A schoolteacher from Karoi, Mashonaland west province died at the Victoria Chitepo General Hospital (formerly Mutare General Hospital) on Tuesday after the bus in which he was travelling in with six colleagues and sixty-two learners was involved in an accident while on an educational trip to the Eastern Highlands, police have confirmed.

In twitter thread, the police said the teachers and learners from Karoi Junior School were on a school bus when it was involved in a serious road traffic accident near Eden Lodge at the 16 km peg along the Vumba-Mutare road around 8 PM.

The teachers and learners suffered varying degrees of injury and were rushed to the hospital where the teacher died while admitted.

According to the police, the driver of the bus failed to control the vehicle while coming from the Leopard Rock Hotel.

In a separate thread, the police applauded the Bulawayo Business Against Crime Forum (BACFOZ) for offering to assist in the treatment of two detectives who were injured during a shootout with a robbery suspect in Cowdray Park suburb on Tuesday, but politely declined it.

“The ZRP reiterates that it has the resources and capacity to ensure that the treatment of the two members is done. The assistance by the BACFOZ and the Bulawayo community is part of their community policing thrust which the ZRP command fully appreciates and acknowledges,” read part of the thread.

Police detectives Assistant Inspector Richard Charamba (47) and Constable Albert Madziva (41) were injured, together with Siwinile Ndlovu, the girlfriend to the robbery suspect Simelweyinkosi Dube (28) who they had cornered at her Cowdry Park home and he used her as a human shield while making good his escape.

Dube, whose last known address was given as 5865, Emganwini, Bulawayo, is a member of a quartet that robbed Insindi Ranch in Gwanda on July 30 and got away with US$7 800, jewelery worth US$200, a Bulawayo Agricultural Show trophy, FN 9mm pistol loaded with 13 rounds, a Cadix 0.38 revolver and empty magazine.

Meanwhile the police in Beatrice, a few kilometers southeast of the capital, have arrested a traditional healer, Andrew Ngondonga in connection with the murder of 75-year-old Leo Chahwanda who died while undergoing treatment at his shrine in Retreat, Waterfalls on Tuesday.

In Melbourne, Martin Magumanya (27) was arrested in connection with a murder case in which the victim, Elias Chaparaushe (48) died on the same day after being kicked on the groin once at Mariano Farm, Mt Hampden on the outskirts of the capital
