ZVISHAVANE – A two-year-old toddler is battling for life in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed
with a kitchen knife by his 38-year old mother.
The motive for the stabbing is not yet known and police has since arrested the mother, Mildness
Mukoshomi of Highlands in the small platinum mining town.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mhoko said they are treating the case as
attempted murder.
The incident happened on September 5 around 8am when Mukoshomi came back from work and
took the two-year-old boy, who was in the kitchen, to the bedroom where she allegedly stabbed him
with a kitchen knife on the stomach.
“Jeremiah Mutunhira who stays at Mukoshori’s residence heard the baby crying unusually and
rushed to check if everything was ok.
“He discovered that Mukoshori’s bedroom door was locked from inside and he force opened it only
to find the baby lying in a pool of blood and his mother standing beside him,” insp. Mahoko said.
The matter was reported to the police and Mukoshori was arrested and taken to court where she
was remanded in custody.
The baby is currently admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital in a serious condition and police
investigations are underway.
Insp. Mahoko urged the public to make use of the ZRP Community relations and liaisons offices
which are found at every police station when they have issues they feel they can not disclose to
relatives and friends to avoid such incidents.
Meanwhile, eight people escaped with injuries when they were involved in a serious accident, due to
negligent driving.
In the afternoon of September 5, one Felix Mazinyo (24) of Millenium Park in Kwekwe, was driving a
Nissan Atlas along the Harare-Bulawayo Road towards Kwekwe, at the 213km peg.
"Mazinyo overtook a stationary Chevrolet which was giving way to oncoming traffic so that it could
turn right and his vehicle collided with a Nissan Caravan which was travelling in the opposite
direction,” Insp. Mahoko said.
The Nissan Caravan had 19 people on board. Mazinyo and seven passengers were injured.
They were ferried to the hospital after a report was made with the police.
Insp. Mahoko said motorists must always exercise caution and to observe the rules of the road.
