MARONDERA- The Uzumba Member of Parliament, Wiriranai Muchemwa has hit the
ground running in his constituency and recently met with traditional and political leaders at
Nhakiwa Business Centre where he outlined the programmes and projects he will carry out
    to improve their lives.
Muchemwa beat Simbaneuta Mudarikwa in the Zanu PF primary elections before winning
convincingly in the August 23/24 harmonised elections where he romped to victory after
garnering 24 588 votes against the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Cosmas
    Konono’s 1 977 votes.
The Uzumba legislator intends to transform the constituency through socio-economic
blueprints that unlock the value of the abundant natural resources in the area such as the
    black granite, lithium and gold.
He said apart from empowering the local people, the programmes would contribute towards
the country’s aspirations of becoming an empowered upper-middle income economy in line
    with Vision 2030.
“Led by President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe is on an economic recovery and
development trajectory and every one of us should play their part towards that vision. It is
very possible for us, as the community of Uzumba, to achieve Vision 2030 as spelt out
because we have an array of minerals such as gold, lithium and granite.
“Over the past years, the people of Uzumba have not been fully benefitting from the minerals
found in their constituency. But let me tell you that we can change all this and make our area
great. I am calling upon all stakeholders to work together and let the world know that
Uzumba is Open for Business and that Uzumba inowakwa nevene vayo,” Muchemwa said.
Vices of negation such as corruption, factionalism, nepotism and violence, he added, have
no room and will never be condoned in the constituency.
He said: “The election season is now behind us and we must get down to work. It is no
longer time to campaign or sow seeds of disunity amongst ourselves. We should be seen
sharing ideas and using the correct platforms to address the challenges that we face as a
constituency. We want peace in Uzumba and there should never be room for corruption in
whatever form at any level of service.”

He opened a constituency office at Nhakiwa Business Centre which will be co-ordinated by
Tinashe Choto who will be playing a key role of aiding the constituency’s development
    agenda.
There will also be a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee whose members
include the legislator, Senator Jerry Gotora, ward councillors, local chiefs and other eight
technocrats in various fields of speciality who will be appointed on merit.
According to Muchemwa, the Amazing Grace Trust of which he is the Patron will have focal
persons in all wards to coordinate community assistance efforts. The Amazing Grace Trust
will prioritise education, health, the disabled, orphans, widows, the underprivileged and
people living with HIV and Aids, among others.
Plans are also underway to establish a media house whose content will sorely focus on
developments happening in Uzumba and that will include a community radio as well.
The Uzumba legislator exhorted members of the community to work with traditional leaders
and support Government programmes to make Uzumba great.
Traditional leaders who attended the meeting included headmen Mgadu, Dyora and Muswe
as well as Chiefs Chipfiyamiti and Nyajina.
