THE Zimbabwe Republic Police will not hesitate to investigate and arrest their own suspected or
reported for their involvement in corruption or other forms of crime, a senior Government official
has said.

The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, in an interview with
Nehanda Guardian said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police has zero tolerance against corruption.”
His sentiments come at a time many police officers from the Traffic Section and Criminal
Investigations Department are accused of corruption and appear to lead better lifestyles than other
sections of the service.

According to Transparency International, police manning roadblocks are financially sound, when
compared to other sections of the police force and this is attributed to corrupt activities.
The Criminal Investigations Department was also not been spared of corrupt accusations.
Kazembe asked the police service to promote highest standards of work ethics that guarantee public
trust and confidence.

He warned members of the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit, who have been decentralised to all
provinces and at all entry ports and airports against asking for bribes from criminals.
“We shall not hesitate to appoint boards of enquiries against anyone reported of corruption,” he
said.

Zimbabweans have witnessed many illegal drug dealers roaming freely in the streets even after they
were reported to the police.

But they are optimistic that with the decentralisation of the drugs unit, this will soon come to an
end.

The scourge of drugs is a cause for concern to the Government as it threatens the future of
Zimbabwe.

Youths, who are the most productive age group are abusing drugs threatening the country’s
production as they end up idle and not doing any thing productive.

According to health experts, the use and abuse of drugs and substances is also a threat to many
marriages as intoxicated males and mothers fail to have time for each other as well for their
children.
