Harare (New Ziana) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi arrived in Zimbabwe on Monday to attend the 22nd International Conference on Aids and STIs in Africa (ICASA).

After his arrival, President Nyusi paid a courtesy call on his counterpart at Zimbabwe State House where he told the media that the two leaders had talks centred on the well-being of their citizens.

“We are here for ICASA. Whenever we are together, we speak about what we want to do for our people; the subject today is health for the people of Zimbabwe, people of Mozambique; what we have to do to make sure that our people are healthy,” he told reporters.

President Mnangagwa said: “We were together the past two days in Dubai so everything I have in mind, I have already talked to him, everything he has in mind about talking to me, we have already exhausted. So whenever brothers meet, they break bread; so we were breaking bread.”

ICASA organisers said 8 000 delegates were expected to attend the conference, with 4 500 already registered whilst others were being expected including heads of government.

Zimbabwe has seen a decrease in HIV-related deaths as a result of several interventions including roll out of treatment, and information dissemination.

According to the second Zimbabwe Population-based HIV Impact Assessment survey (ZIMPHIA 2020), the country’s HIV policies and programmes have contributed to increased access to treatment and viral load suppression among adults living with HIV.
The ICASA conference opened on Monday.
