Harare, (New Ziana) – In a bid to create wider consumer rights awareness, The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) will on Friday partner with the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) to launch the CCZ Academy,
a new higher education institution focused on equipping students with critical skills for consumer protection.

The launch will feature Consumer International director general, Helena Laurent as the guest of honor, CCZ said in a statement.

This comes on the heels of the CCZ successfully lobbying for the enactment of the comprehensive Consumer Protection Act Chapter 14:44 in 2019, which established robust legal protections for consumers in the Zimbabwean marketplace.

The academy will offer training programs targeting a wide range of stakeholders, including ordinary consumers, business owners, entrepreneurs, marketers, and front-office staff.

Courses will focus on teaching international best practices in consumer protection, with the goal of instilling a ‘customer is king’ mentality throughout the Zimbabwean economy.

Industry leaders, business associations, and entrepreneurs have all been invited to attend the launch, which promises to be a landmark occasion for consumer rights in Zimbabwe.
