Harare, (New Ziana) – Stefan Hall, Director of the global consumer advocacy organization Consumers International, has hailed the launch of the CCZ Academy by the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ), saying the new educational institution will play a vital role in empowering Zimbabwean citizens with knowledge about consumer protection and rights.

The CCZ Academy will be affiliated with the University of Zimbabwe, allowing it to offer accredited courses and programs to students across the country.

This partnership, Hall said as he officially launched the academy, will ensure the academy’s curriculum and training meet high academic standards while remaining tailored to the unique consumer landscape in Zimbabwe.

“Equipping citizens with a strong understanding of their rights as consumers is crucial for fostering a fair and transparent marketplace. “The launch of the CCZ Academy represents an important step forward in realizing this goal in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Hall noted that the academy’s establishment comes at a time of heightened focus on consumer welfare worldwide.

He said Consumers International has prioritized supporting the development of national consumer protection agencies and educational initiatives like the CCZ Academy as part of its global advocacy work.

“We commend the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe for their leadership in creating this new institution.
“The CCZ Academy will undoubtedly contribute to empowering Zimbabwean consumers and help advance consumer rights in the country for years to come,” he said

CCZ chief executive officer Rosemary Mpofu emphasized the critical importance of training both businesses and consumers, as it was a crucial process that brought credibility and order to the marketplace.

She expressed gratitude to the Government of Zimbabwe, through the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, for creating an enabling environment and providing unwavering support.

She thanked stakeholders in attendance, expressing appreciation for their support over the years.

“You have all chosen to be a part of this organization due to a mutual passion for consumer protection.
“Your passions help us all to unite, and the energy we create is what allows us to achieve our goals collectively. We need you as much as you need us, and that’s why we are grateful to have you join us here today,” she said.

The event was filled with a sense of excitement and anticipation as the CCZ took a significant step forward in its mission to protect and empower consumers in the country.
