    Mudzi man arrested for murder

    MARONDERA- The police in Mashonaland East recently nabbed a 26-year-old man from Mudzi in connection with the murder of Shame Jongwe (42) following a misunderstanding.

    Roney Ndlovhu (26) of Chimango village, Chief Chikwizo Mudzi is in police custody on accusations of murdering the now deceased Jongwe of Tekete Village 3, Chief Chikwizo in Mudzi district.

    Reports are that on June 11, this year at 11pm, the now deceased Jongwe and Ndlovhu were in a shop at Mapombo Business Centre and a misunderstanding arose between the two over the previous arrest of the accused early this year.

    During the altercation, Ndlovhu accused Jongwe for previously facilitating his arrest in a case of unlawful entry which he had committed sometime in January this year.

    The accused is said to have produced an okapi knife and stabbed the now deceased on the chest. After being stabbed, Jongwe fell and bled profusely before the accused forcibly removed the knife from the now deceased’s chest and ran away towards Tekete Village where he robbed his mother Prisca Ndlovhu (44) of her US$36 at knife point. After robbing his mother, the accused disappeared into the darkness to an unknown destination with the murder weapon.”

    Spokesperson for Mashonaland East province, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident saying the following day Mavis Muperuka (36), a fellow villager who had witnessed the incident reported at ZRP Makosa. The body of the deceased was taken to Murehwa District Hospital for post mortem and Ndlovhu was subsequently nabbed.

    The provincial police spokesperson thanked members of the public for assisting the police with information that led to the arrest of the suspect.
