Harare,  (New Ziana) –The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Wednesday arrested four men and impounded a busload of smuggled second hand clothes along the Gweru-Mvuma road in the Midlands province.

In a post on the official ZRP X account, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said 33 bales of second hand clothes suspected to have been smuggled from neighbouring Mozambique were loaded on a Lean Angles bus that was travelling to Bulawayo from Mutare.

“Members of the police deployed at a roadblock along Gweru–Mvuma Road on operation “No to smuggling,” intercepted a Lean Angels bus and arrested the bus driver, Bothwel William (41) as well as Casnos Rungwande (45), Rodrick Muyayiso (41) and Chris Mabhuya (26) for smuggling 33 bales of second hand clothes and shoes.

The bus was travelling from Mutare en route to Bulawayo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Comm Nyathi said under another police operation, “No to Mushikashika”, the police arrested 7 695 people including 197 touts while 67 unregistered and plate-less vehicles have been impounded.

The operation aims to reclaim public spaces and enhance commuter safety by cracking down on unauthorised transport services and illegal touting practices.
