Harare , (New Ziana) -Senegal fully supports the bid by Zimbabwe for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2027-2028, a senior official has said.

Speaking to the media soon after holding a closed door meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House on Wednesday, Senegalese Minister of African Integration and foreign affairs, Yassine Fall, said his country has been a big supporter of Zimbabwe for a very long time.

“I came here today to meet His Excellency, Mr President to present warm greetings from his brother, His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye of Senegal and express also his gratitude for his leadership in Africa and both our leaders’ intention to strengthen diplomatic relationship and business relationship,” she said.

Fall said Senegal will continue supporting Zimbabwe in many areas, including its bid to be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council of the United Nations.

“So we came here today to greet the President, to bring him message of solidarity, message of greeting. As you know we are also in the process of pushing Africa’s development, Agenda 2063, and we need strong institutions in Africa and this is also why we came here to discuss with the President,” she said.

Zimbabwe is vying for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the term 2027-208. Several countries and regional organisations have supported the bid, including Russia, India, China and the Southern African Development Community.

Securing the seat will be a significant achievement for the country, allowing it to participate in global peace and security discussions as well as elevate its international influence.
