ENERGY industry regulator, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced a sharp increase in fuel prices for March 2026, a move driven by rising global oil costs linked to escalating tensions and conflict in the Middle East.

ZERA raised diesel to US$2.05 per litre and petrol blend to US$2.17, marking hikes of 9% and 15% from two weeks ago, as Brent crude soared past $100 per barrel due to disrupted Gulf supplies.

Officials assured three months of stocks and capped diesel below market rates to ease the hit on mining, farming, and transport, while planning reassessment in two weeks.

For cash-strapped locals, the increases mean higher public fares and rippling costs on food and goods, leaving queues at stations and worries about regional high prices.

Zimbabwe, like most African countries, imports all of its fuel.
