Tenax Correctional Services Football Club climbed to second place in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League after defeating FC Wangu Mazodze 2-1 at Mucheke Stadium recently.

Tatenda Kureti gave Tenax CS FC an early lead in the seventh minute, heading home to put the visitors ahead.

FC Wangu Mazodze responded strongly and drew level in the 37th minute through Lucky Itimu, whose powerful strike ensured the teams went into the interval tied at 1-1.

The visitors regained the advantage in the 66th minute when Simon Munemero found the back of the net after an entertaining contest in which both sides created scoring opportunities.

FC Wangu Mazodze pressed for a late equaliser in the closing stages, but the Tenax CS FC defence held firm to secure all three points.

Speaking after the match, Tenax CS FC head coach Gibson Mutemera described the encounter as a difficult test and credited his players for executing the game plan.

“It was a tough game for us, but we managed to score first and they came back before half-time. It was part of our tactical plan and we got our second goal in the second half. It was one of the best performances from the boys away from home,” said Mutemera.

“We are taking each game as it comes and this win adds to our equation as we aim for promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. Our next task is to push harder in our midweek fixture against Deportivo La Murambinda.”

FC Wangu Mazodze coach Martin Nyanzira praised his players despite the defeat.

“A good performance from the boys despite the result. We continue working on scoring goals. At least we managed to score today,” said Nyanzira.

The victory takes Tenax CS FC to 25 points from 13 matches, moving the side into second place on the league standings, two points behind leaders Yadah FC.

Yadah FC, Deportivo La Murambinda, Green Fuel FC and Africa Mineral Ventures FC, however, all have matches in hand.

FC Wangu Mazodze remain on 10 points and will next travel to face Chivhu FC, while Tenax CS FC will host Deportivo La Murambinda in a midweek fixture as the team continues its promotion campaign.
