HARARE – Zimbabwe is mourning the death of retired senior military officer Richard Ruwodo, who died on Tuesday at the age of 72.

The death was announced by the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi.

“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Major General (Retired) Richard Ruwodo, who died at a local hospital in Harare on Tuesday,” Lieutenant General Tapfumaneyi said in a statement.

Major General (Rtd) Ruwodo is survived by his wife, Lois, and three children.

Family members, friends and colleagues have gathered at his residence at Number 92 Folyjon Crescent, Glen Lorne, Harare, to pay their respects.

The Zimbabwe National Army said funeral and burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

Major General (Rtd) Ruwodo dedicated many years of service to the Zimbabwe National Army, rising through the ranks before retiring. His passing marks the loss of one of the country’s veteran military officers, with condolences expected from across the defence establishment, Government and the wider public.
