HWANGE –Southern region division one league leaders Hwange FC booked a place into the next round of the Munhumutapa Cup after a famous win against Dynamos at the Colliery stadium.
It was a fast, attacking start from both sides, and Dynamos nearly took the lead. However Hwange’s Morestaff Ncube struck first, sparking jubilation among the fans.
The goal reminded Hwange supporters of the good old days when Chipangano played in the Zimbabwe Premier League, troubling big teams at the Colliery Stadium.
When the referee blew his whistle for half time, it was a sigh of relief and an entertaining halftime with history about to be made after 45 mins.
The second half was intense, testing every Hwange player’s mentality and endurance as Dynamos kept firing from all cylinders in search of an equaliser.
But an organised Hwange defence and midfield refused to buckle as they thwarted every move.
Despite numerous attempts from Dynamos to score, they just could not unlock the Hwange defence. The referee added seven minutes of stoppage time as the game drew to a close, but Chipangano held on for a famous win. When the referee blew the final whistle, the stadium went into a frenzy as supporters celebrated the win. For Dynamos, it will be a long journey to Harare.
Elsewhere another Southern region side Jordan FC sent the noisy neighbours Gwanda Pirates packing in a match that was settled by penalties after a goalless draw.
Hardrock, Bulawayo Chiefs and Herentals are some of the teams that qualified for the next round in the iconic Munhumutapa Cup.
On Sunday Bulawayo giants Highlanders and another Southern region side BlackRock will battle it out at the Colliery stadium.
Aqua Football club is also another division one side from the Southern region lining up to face Chilli Fc on Monday.
