Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Commissioner, Dr Eng Martin Muduva and his wife have died, in a double tragedy that has left the commission mourning.
The couple died on Wednesday, according to a condolence message issued by the ZHRC, which described Dr Muduva’s death as an “untimely passing” and a devastating loss to the commission and those who worked with him.
Details surrounding the deaths, including funeral arrangements, were not contained in the condolence notice.
Dr Muduva was appointed a ZHRC Commissioner on December 19, 2024, and made significant contributions to the commission’s work, particularly in highlighting the links between human rights and technology.
“It is with profound shock and deep sorrow that the Commissioners and Secretariat of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission have learnt of the untimely passing on of Commissioner Dr. Eng. Martin Muduva and his wife,” the commission said.
The ZHRC said Dr Muduva’s commitment to public service, as well as the promotion and protection of human rights and administrative justice, would be remembered with profound respect.
His contribution to the commission came at a time when technological developments were increasingly intersecting with questions of human rights, bringing new challenges and opportunities to the protection of citizens’ rights.
The commission said his work had helped bring greater attention to these linkages.
“The death of Commissioner Muduva is a devastating loss to the Commission and to all those who had the privilege of working with him,” the ZHRC said.
The simultaneous death of his wife has compounded the tragedy, with the commission extending its condolences to the couple’s children, families, relatives, friends and loved ones.
“The loss of his wife at the same time makes this tragedy even more devastating,” the commission said.
