Anthony Chawagarira
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has made several appointments to government and constitutional commissions, introducing new leadership to key institutions responsible for local government, human rights, gender, land, and electoral affairs.
Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, confirmed the appointments.
Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti has been appointed as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, while Anele Ndebele has been appointed as Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.
Dr. Leslie Ncube is the new Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission.
At the Zimbabwe Land Commission, Professor Mandivamba Rukuni has been appointed as Deputy Chairperson, with Dr John Basera and Dr Mabel Ndakaripa-Hungwe joining the commission as commissioners.
Sheuneni Kurasha has also been appointed as a Commissioner of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
The appointments were made in accordance with the Constitution and take immediate effect.
The appointments come as the government continues to strengthen institutions responsible for public administration, constitutional governance, and the implementation of national development programmes.
Engineer Muguti’s appointment places him at the helm of the ministry responsible for supporting local authorities and overseeing key areas of public works and decentralisation.
The constitutional commissions, meanwhile, play important roles in promoting and protecting human rights, advancing gender equality, administering land-related matters, and overseeing electoral processes.
