Gweru May 2, 2020 (New Ziana) -The Gweru City Council has urged residents to continue observing health guidelines including social distancing in order to maintain its record of not having a positive case of Covid-19.
In a statement, Gweru mayor Josiah Makumbe urged residents to practice good hygiene in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
He said the council had also distributed on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, posters on the signs, symptoms, prevention, hygiene methods, social distancing, workplace distancing, myths and misconceptions about the pandemic.
“We are also making use of hailers to encourage people to ensure social distancing,” he said.
Makumbe added that council was trying its best to supply residents with water on a daily basis.
“We are trying by all means to supply all the residents with water following our water rationing schedule.
“We made sure that all the boreholes in the city are in good working condition to ensure that everyone gets water. We urge our valued residents to ensure social distancing at the boreholes.”
He said council had received various donations towards the fight against Covid-19.
Cabinet recently urged local authorities to take advantage of the national lockdown to remove illegal structures as well as clean up and renovate workplaces for small and medium entrepreneurs.
Areas identified include Kudzanayi long distance bus terminus, Kombayi vegetable wholesale market, TM commuter rank and Swift flea market.
